Informatics support is provided by the Informatics Core Manager (ICM) Thomas M. McKibben II, PhD, who is available to consult with investigators and staff on protocol related computing issues. This includes database design and management, custom application development, and computer training. The ICM works in concert with Northwestern Memorial Hospital IT staff to enhance and maintain systems within the GCRC. The Informatics Core Manager also works closely with the Biostatistician to ensure that the best combination of hardware and software is utilized to meet the research needs of investigators.
The Informatics Core (IC) currently consists of 2 Windows XP workstations, a color laser printer, and other specialized equipment available for use within the GCRC. A Linux based central server is available for data storage and analysis. Many of the IC services will be available remotely via custom web applications on the Informatics Core Web Portal, making them accessible to all GCRC investigators regardless of computing platform. Easy access to the tools needed to collect, store, analyze, and present data, is a cornerstone of the IC development process. Another is close collaboration with the Biostatistics Core and other GCRC Core resources to ensure the best use of technology in pursuit of scientific knowledge. Current and planned software support includes - Microsoft Office XP Professional
- Adobe Acrobat
- Adobe Photoshop
- Macromedia Studio MX
- SAS
- SPLUS
Current and planned database support includes - Microsoft SQL Server
