| Although the SRC cannot influence issues related to benefits at Northwestern, it does have a voice in other matters that affect Feinberg School staff members and research associates. Concerned about an increase in Chicago campus crime, the committee met several times with University Police and in fall 2002 developed a security survey that was administered to faculty, staff, and students. The committee used the results of the survey to recommend additional security measures, which may include hiring more officers and requiring students and the medical school faculty and staff to wear NU ID badges. The committee welcomes comments from the staff regarding issues that it should address. Refer to Committee Members to contact a member of the Issues Subcommittee. This annual fall art exhibit features the work of Feinberg School students and faculty and staff members as well as staff members of the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. Each year up to 35 works are displayed in a variety of media. Exhibits have included photographs, oil and watercolor paintings, wood and stone sculptures, and textiles. The exhibit is held in the Method Atrium, 300 East Chicago Avenue on the Chicago campus, over three weekdays. Invitations to participate in Art in the Atrium are sent in late summer. The work of three to five Art in the Atrium participants is featured in the staff newsletter Expressions. For more information about Art in the Atrium, contact a member of the Events Subcommittee. In recognition of the numerous contributions of staff members and research associates in meeting the missions of the medical school, the SRC sponsors several staff appreciation events throughout the year. These have included Mardi Gras and Valentine's Day breakfasts as well as the ever popular Ice Cream Social. The latter sometimes features entertainment by talented members of the faculty, staff, and student body. Each November the SRC invites Feinberg School Dean Lewis Landsberg, MD, and other members of the school's leadership to give a presentation on the state of the school to students and faculty and staff members. Every speaker provides a unique perspective on the challenges facing the school and academic medical centers as a whole. These speakers also discuss how the school ranks nationally in education and research and recent successes in areas such as faculty recruitment. The meeting concludes with a question-and-answer session and reception for attendees.
