Child Care

Child Care Allowance and Matching Dependent Care Program

Faculty and staff of Northwestern University are urged to take advantage of the dependent-care option, part of Northwestern's Flexible Spending Account (FSA) program. The FSA program permits you to set aside up to $5,000 each year in pretax dollars to use for child care expenses. Enrollment in this account is available during the fall open enrollment period preceding the year in which the expenses will be incurred. Careful planning is encouraged to avoid forfeiting any unused funds at the end of the year.

KinderCare at Northwestern University

Located at 446 E. Ontario, the center is fully licensed by the City of Chicago and open Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Further information can be obtained at the KinderCare site.
For more information, call the KinderCare Director at 312/867-7056.

Child Care Referral

Northwestern University has contracted with the Action for Children to assist members of the faculty and staff in seeking child care. The referral service is available by calling (312) 823-1275 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Council consultants will provide information about location, cost and hours of day care facilities with vacancies; preschool and after-school child care; sick day care; summer programs; and individual counseling about child care concerns. In addition, you will be provided with written materials on child development; tips on interviewing for quality care; and conducting your child care search. Neither the University nor the Day Care Action Council endorses the selection of any child care facility. Only you can choose the best care for your child.
