| An individual holding a primary faculty appointment in one medical school department may be appointed in a second department if contributions to the activities of the second department satisfy a defined and substantial need. The chairs of both departments and the candidate must request the secondary appointment, which is sometimes referred to as a “joint” appointment. Primary and secondary appointments must be at the same rank. A faculty member ordinarily may hold no more than one secondary appointment within the medical school. Secondary appointments are nontenure-eligible and therefore do not have indefinite terms. These appointments will be reviewed and either renewed or terminated generally at intervals of no longer than three years. Resignation from or termination of a primary appointment automatically terminates a secondary appointment. | |
