Art in the Atrium Exhibits School's Creative Flair

Staff member Sandee Feldman exhibited a favorite photo from her visit to the Alhambara in Spain.
Rich, inventive pieces ranging from a macramé bracelet to a velvet paper cutting showcased the many talents of Feinberg School students, residents, and faculty and staff members during the annual Art in the Atrium display.

Organized by the Staff Relations Committee, the fall collection in the Method Atrium featured the artistic submissions of 17 staff members and research associates, 12 faculty members, 5 students, and 1 resident. Photography, drawing, and painting once again proved popular among the works on display during the October 19–21 exhibit. view full story>

Growth Tops State of the School Address

In the last decade, the Feinberg School has undergone significant growth, said Dean Lewis Landsberg, MD, at the State of the School Address held November 16 in Turnbull Auditorium. Research growth, student financial aid and housing, and the school's relationships with its clinical affiliates were among the topics addressed by Dean Landsberg and Jeffrey Miller, chief operating officer and senior executive associate dean, at the event attended by 125 faculty and staff members and students.

Funding from sponsored project awards to medical school researchers have almost quadrupled in the last decade. In 2004 research awards totaled $185 million, $137 million to clinical departments and $48 million to basic science departments. Since 2000, the number of principal investigators with more than $1 million per year in research awards has increased from 20 to 47. The opening of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University this spring will help advance research at the school. view full story>
