Lurie Medical Research Center Opening in Spring 2005

Plans are on schedule for the spring 2005 opening of the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center. Featuring more than 200,000 net square feet of research space, the 12-story Lurie Medical Research Center will house nine floors of laboratories and several offices to support research in genetics and molecular medicine, cancer, neurosciences, and biomedical engineering. Each research floor will include 12 laboratories, with each having room for 1 principal investigator and 5 researchers. When completed, the building will house approximately 700 researchers, technicians, postdoctoral students, and lab assistants. The building will also include floors for support functions and a ground floor with a dining facility, two auditoriums, and three classrooms. New York-based Davis Brody Bond is the architectural firm for the research facility, which is located on the southeast corner of Superior Street and Fairbanks Court on the former Passavant Pavilion site.
