New Commuting Options Unveiled

The Chicago Parking Office has introduced a new $10, 12-hour employee sticker that became available to Chicago-based employees on September 1. While still in its early stages, the Parking Office will administer the following guidelines for these stickers:

  • Only two employee sticker purchases will be allowed during a given month.
  • Parking is available only at the 275 East Chestnut Street garage.
  • The employee will be required to park first, then bring his or her ticket and WildCARD to Abbott Hall, Room 100, where a separate ticket will be issued. This ticket should then be presented to the cashier at the parking facility when exiting.

Shuttles provide further options for employees who are not eligible for Chicago Campus parking. The Ryan Field Park N' Ride option allows employees to park at the Ryan Field lot in Evanston, then take the free (with valid WildCARD) intercampus shuttle to the Chicago campus. Permits are available for an annual fee of $25. The intercampus shuttle provides service continuously between the Chicago and Evanston campuses from 5:10 a.m. to 10:55 p.m. weekdays. To view the schedule, visit www.univsvcs.northwestern.edu/inter.htm.

Other options for Chicago campus commuters are the SafeRide evening shuttle and shuttles to the CNW and Union, Randolph, and LaSalle Street train stations. Operating Monday through Friday (excluding University holidays) from 7:10 p.m. to 1:10 a.m., the SafeRide shuttle is free for those displaying a valid WildCARD. The shuttle picks up riders at various locations on campus, with drop-off points at campus parking lots, Michigan Avenue, and the Chicago Avenue CTA Red Line stop. Visit www.univsvcs.northwestern.edu/Parking/saferide.html for the bus schedule.

Riders requiring drop off at the CNW and Union, Randolph, and LaSalle Street train stations are required to purchase a ticket for extended service to the stations. Visit www.univsvcs.northwestern.edu/Parking/train.htm for shuttle schedules. In addition to evening hours, the shuttles operate during morning and evening rush hours. Tickets cost $11 for 10 rides or $35 for a monthly pass.
