New Faculty Academic Orientation

The Faculty Affairs Office of Feinberg School of Medicine is pleased to present a "New Faculty Academic Orientation" on Friday September 12, 2008, from 8:30 am to -12:45 pm (including lunch) in the Baldwin Auditorium, Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.  The goal of this new program is to help launch new faculty, from Clinicians to Investigators, toward successful and rewarding academic careers at Northwestern.  Faculty who have been with FSM for a year or less are the primary target audience, but any junior faculty member is welcome to attend.  The schedule will include:

8:00-8:30           Continental Breakfast
8:30-8:40           Welcome
8:40-8:45           Orientation to the Orientation
8:45-9:00           How the BIG academic pieces of the Northwestern puzzle fit together – A “deconstruction” of the abbreviations and organizational structure of Northwestern University and its affiliates
9:00-9:30           Academic tracks/categories and ranks – how they are different and similar
9:30-10:00         An introduction to the processes and steps for academic appointment, promotion and tenure

10:00-10:20       Break

10:20-10:40       Resources beyond your department to help with professional development
10:40-11:40       Planning and guiding your professional future
11:40-12:00       Q & A, Wrap-up, anything we haven’t covered
12:00-12:45       Box Lunches and opportunities to network with colleagues and ask questions of speakers

To gauge the number of participants, please RSVP your intent to attend to Cathleen Tracy at ctracy@northwestern.edu.  If you previously responded to the first announcement of the Orientation you do not need to RSVP again.
