Waiver of Search
A waiver of an affirmative action search may be requested under a limited number of specific circumstances, including:
- The opportunity to appoint an underrepresented minority member
- A window of opportunity to appoint an unusual candidate
- The need to move rapidly and meet an urgent clinical need
- A spousal recruit, or faculty relocating with a senior-level recruitment
**Please contact Faculty Affairs if you’ve questions on whether a waiver will be allowed. The Provost requires evidence of a national search for all tenure-track new appointments and generally those on the non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Investigator career track, as well.
A waiver of search consists of:
1. Pre-Search Review Form for Faculty/Academic Vacancy with “Request for Waiver” typed across the top
- Complete top information section on front side of green form and Department Chair signs back side of form
2. In Chairman Recommendation for Faculty Appointment form, Search section, indicate the request for waiver of an affirmative action search
3. All documents for an initial appointment appropriate to the rank and tenure status
