Description of Interests

My primary research is designed to investigate factors which may be involved in the process of metabolic adaptation to weight loss in individuals who have become overweight or obese. This adaptive process, which leads to a reduction in energy expenditure, increased hunger, and decreased satiety or fullness, is thought to contribute to the high rates of recidivism seen with obesity treatments. Another area of interest is nutritional interventions for obesity-related metabolic disorders. In addition, I serve as an investigator for multi-center trials of new therapeutic options for the treatment of obesity and/or metabolic disorders, such as diabetes.
