I help patients who struggle with emotional and compulsive overeating understand the connection between their experience of stress and their lack of control over their eating. Understanding this connection helps motivate patients to focus on the cause of the problem rather than the effect, and to develop more effective coping strategies to overcome their reliance on food as a short-term coping mechanism.
