General InformationThe Emergency Medicine program at the Northwestern McGaw Center for Graduate Medical Education participates in the NRMP and accepts applications for the PGY-1 position. We only accept applications through ERAS for PGY-1 positions; all other inquiries are not accepted. We currently match 12 PGY-1 positions. Any openings that may arise during the academic year will be listed on the SAEM Residency Vacancy Service. Program ApplicationWe participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) match. Applications are submitted through your medical school dean's office or the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Please contact your medical school student affairs or dean's office or the ECFMG for instructions. Applications will not be accepted via fax, mail or e-mail. - USMLE scores - Part I required, Part II is optional, but preferred
- A recent photograph (Optional - Helpful in refreshing memories for ranking purposes)
- Three or four letters of recommendation from physicians (Ideally include two from emergency medicine physicians)
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- Medical school transcript
- Personal Statement
Application Deadline- Applications should be submitted by November 1st.
- Letters of Recommendation should be received by your interview date, preferably prior to November 1st.
InterviewsInterviews are conducted weekly mid-November through January. All interviews take place at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Campus in downtown Chicago. Interview offers are generally made November through December, after the interview selection committee has had the opportunity to review applications and MSPE. We will not make interview offers prior to the MSPE release. All interview days are paired with casual social/education evening events. Additional information will be sent along with interview invitations. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend these events and should consider them when making travel arrangements. All invitations, notifications and correspondence will be sent via e-mail. Interview spots fill quickly! Please ensure that the email address on your application is reliable and that you check it frequently.
