Triquetral fractures are radiographically classified as peripheral chip fractures or body fractures.  Chip fractures are treated with 2-3 weeks of immobilization with a short arm cast or splint.  In the Emergency Department, volar splint may be applied for temporary immobilization of this injury. 

     Minimally displaced fractures of the body of the triquetrum should also be treated with cast immobilization for 4-6 weeks.  Displaced triquetral body fractures should be treated with either closed reduction and percutaneous pinning or ORIF as they are often associated with severe ligamentous injury.
