Therapeutic Clinical Trials

Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Instutitue

For Fiscal Year 2010 we sought to continue our efforts to provide cutting edge therapeutic interventions to patients by continuing our therapeutic clinical trials program. These projects involve randomization of patients to receive as yet non FDA approved or off label use of pharmaceuticals in the fields of thrombosis and hemostasis and acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

Specifically, we wanted to:

  • Initiate enrollment in two new clinical trials for ADHF
  • Enroll 1-2 subjects per month overall to achieve a positive or neutral budget standing with respect to our industry-sponsored therapeutic clinical trials efforts

We have met both of our goals. During this fiscal year, two new ADHF studies opened to enrollment and we have successfully enrolled patients in each. Additionally, there is another ADHF trial currently under negotiation. Our success finding and enrolling patients in these trials has enabled us to achieve a positive budget standing this year. All clinical trials research personnel are now completely supported from sponsored funds and revenue generated this year will help support them in FY’11.
