FY11 Goals

  • Increase mentoring of key EM research faculty to enhance our NIH funding submissions.  This will include internal support/protected time for EM faculty to develop and pursue federal funding in high impact clinical areas.

  • Improve departmental electronic communication between EM faculty members regarding research opportunities, success, and collaboration.

  • Streamline the departmental grant submission process through the hire of an experienced research administrator with a successful track record of federal funding submissions, pre and post award support.

  • Better educate EM faculty on changes to the grant submission process both internally and externally through enhanced communication and available institutional workshops.

  • Build on the success of our health services research by creating a more synergistic relationship with IHS through regular communication between both faculty and leadership groups to enhance potential collaboration and in turn future federal submissions.

  • Expand our ED screening coverage by building upon our existing research assistant staff in order to better identify patients eligible for prospective research projects; and institutionally continue to function as a patient reservoir for investigators wishing to tap a particular population that is available in the ED.

  • Continue to increase the use of Health Informatics applied to result in publications and grant funded work.
