Emergency Medicine Clinical Operations is where systems engineering, process improvement, management, and leadership are put into daily practice to deliver safe, efficient, effective, patient‐centered, high quality emergency care. Ensuring the best patient care lies at the core of everything we do.
This year alone, more than 84,000 patients were seen at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED). On a daily basis, nearly 25% of these ED patients are admitted to Feinberg Pavilion. Approximately 25% of ED patients arrive by ambulance. Furthermore, over 40% of NMH inpatients receive their initial care in the ED.
365 days a year, 24 hours a day, the Emergency Department faculty and staff work tirelessly to provide the exceptional quality of care that each and every patient deserves. The emergency department consists of 27 full-time attending physicians, 10 part-time consultant physicians, and over 200 nurses and Emergency Department staff who will each assure that every patient receives the highest quality of care. The ED is a complex, dynamic, and ever-changing environment. Efficient provision of patient care depends on multidisciplinary collaboration involving laboratory, radiology, inpatient services, transportation, and other key services, without which we could not achieve our mission. We are very grateful to all who help support the care of our emergency department patients.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department’s vision of clinical excellence is clear. It aims to develop and implement new and higher standards for emergency care, elevating the quality of emergency care at Northwestern, in the United States, and throughout the world. The department also will ease patients’ suffering, promote partnership with the patient and family, work to assure effective care beyond the emergency department visit, and align as a premier team to advance these goals.
