The Student Promotions Committee (SPC) is charged with the responsibility for reviewing student performance and enforcing academic and behavioral standards. The committee is comprised of faculty members, ex-officio administrative members and two student members. Students are appointed during their third year to a two year appointment. The students selected must show evidence of strong academic record and high personal behavior standards. This committee reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education. The specific responsibilities of this committee are: - to recommend policies on academic and non-academic student performance standards
- to recommend the promotion and graduation of those students who meet the requirements defined by the medical faculty and listed in this handbook
- to review records of and recommend the appropriate course of action for those students who:
- fail courses or clerkships or components thereof
- perform at levels which, though passing, are felt to be of marginal caliber
- are referred by the faculty because of potential academic difficulty
- have not demonstrated the personal and/or professional qualities necessary to become a physician
- to consider alleged violations of the behavioral and academic integrity standards of the medical school and recommend the appropriate course of action
- to consider alleged violations of the FSM academic and behavioral standards
- to consider student grievances regarding academic issues and recommend appropriate action
- to review and approve student requests and plans for leaves of absence (LOA), and requests for readmission after LOAs
