| All Northwestern students are temporary residents of the state of Illinois and, as such, are subject to the laws of the state and to the ordinances of the cities of Evanston, Chicago, or all other cities they are in. In addition, every student is required to comply with all rules and regulations enacted and published by the University or under the delegated authority of the University. For further information, refer to the Northwestern University Student Handbook ,a copy of which is provided to each student by the School of Medicine’s Office of Student Programs and Professional Development.
A medical student or student organization found to have violated any one of the University’s rules or regulations shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action as provided by the Student Promotions Committee.
The Student Promotions Committee (SPC) may be asked by the Dean for Education to consider allegations of extracurricular behavioral or other specific misconduct for appropriate action. SPC actions may include reprimand, suspension, or dismissal of a student whose actions are found to be inconsistent with the qualities of a good physician. These vital qualities include: - sound judgment
- personal insight or perception
- motivation
- personal integrity and accountability
- responsibility to patients
- ability to recognize personal limitations
- ability to function under pressure.
