In September, Dr. Warren Wallace was appointed to his current position as Associate Dean for Admissions at FSM. Dr. Wallace brings a wealth of experience in internal medicine residency selection to the job. Dr. Wallace plans to review the admissions and interview processes over the next year. About his new position, he says, "Shortly after my appointment in Admissions was announced, a colleague offered congratulations with 'You know, the future of the school is in your hands.' Although perhaps a bit hyperbolic, the assessment that the strength of the school is dependent on the quality of its students is certainly true. My job, to select and recruit the best future physicians to spend the first part of their medical training at FSM, is a challenge to which I look forward with eagerness and humility.” Dr. Warren Wallace is a graduate of the University of Detroit in Psychology and the University of Michigan Medical School (1976). His graduate training includes an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the VA Lakeside Medical Center. He served a year as chief resident at NMH and then was recruited to Northwestern as a member of the Division of General Internal Medicine and has held various administrative posts including Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency and Chief of Staff at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. Major teaching roles have included medicine ward teaching attending at both NMH and the VA as well as a key faculty for the Medical Decision Making course taught in the M1 through M3 years at FSM. He continues to teach a highly successful Board Review Course for Internal Medicine residents (100% pass rate for 7 consecutive years) and has received numerous teaching awards including the Patterson Award voted by the senior medical residents as their best teacher.
