Advice

Find your passion, own it, and follow it.  You receive a wide variety of advice, both explicit and implicit, in your interactions with your fellow peers, teachers, and mentors.  The most important advice, however, is the advice that your heart and your mind feed you

Life in Chicago

Life in Chicago has its perks.  Being close to the lake offers many opportunities for quick breaks at the beach or just a few minutes of staring up at the sky and out over the water.  I definitely recommend taking advantage of the beautiful waterfront while at Feinberg.  There's also always something interesting to discover in Chicago, whether you like theater, museums, biking, music, unique food, etc. It definitely is a multicultural and varied place.  Exploration is a must!

Why Feinberg?

I was accepted to Feinberg out of high school through the Honors Program in Medical Education.

Career Goals

My goal is to become a forensic psychiatrist.  I have always been more interested in the social implications of health and illness, particularly psychological health and illness, than in the maintenance of physical health. My first year I had an inkling that I would like to have a career combining my interests in mental health and public health, and when I stumbled upon Forensic Psychiatry, my match had been made.  Always personally interested in crime and the failings of society as well, I have found a career that matches my personal interests.

Involvement inside and outside of school

At Feinberg I have served as the president of our LGBT student group, Queers & Allies, and I have done LGBT health work outside of school.  I formed a cross-Chicago LGBT medical student organization called Chicago Queers & Allies in Medicine, and I serve on the board of directors for the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association.  I spent the summer following my first year of medical school working at Chicago's LGBT health center, Howard Brown, performing research on HIV medication adherence amongst HIV+ teenagers and testing individuals for HIV.

In addition to my work with the LGBT community, I serve on the Committee of Admissions for Feinberg.
