Resources from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) The AAMC is the national organization representing allopathic medical schools in the United States. This is the main page for students and includes information about considering a medical career, applying to medical school, careers in medicine, and residency training.Fee Assistance Program for AMCAS and MCAT is a valuable resource for those who qualify. Students receiving a FAP waiver get a reduced MCAT registration fee and a free AMCAS application to 13 schools. Be advised that the FAP is not retro-active and can only be used for waivers prior to registration/submission.
Facts about applicants and matriculants by race, ethnicity, gender, state, etc. If you are interested in learning more about national applicant and matriculant trends, go here.This site also containts a very useful data spreadsheet of the % of students accepted to medical school by GPA and MCAT indices. This data is especially useful for students deliberating whether or when to apply.
Minority Medical Applicant Registry (Med-Mar). Make sure that medical schools receive your information for recruitment purposes by electing to participate in the Med-Mar.
Post-bacc Programs Searchable database Considering additional preparation or post-baccalaureate work? This is the most comprehensive searchable tool on the web. Each entry contains contact information and links to program websites. Search by state, program type, degree/certificate type, etc.
Medical School Admissions Requirements (book for purchase) The MSAR is a valuable tool for applicants. It contains a uniformly formatted data snapshot for each LCME-accredited medical school. Students can easily find school-specific information on applicant pools, diversity, entering student charcteristics, curriculum, etc. The MSAR also helps with technical aspects of the application process by providing prerequisite information as well as whether or not a school screens prior to inviting students to complete supplemental applications.
Minority Student Opportunities in U.S. Medical Schools (book for purchase) This publication is produced every two years and has entries for almost all allopathic schools in the U.S. about programming and resources available to aspiring doctors. The book contains programming for both high school and college level prospective students.
AAMC Minority Career Awareness Fair Each year at the AAMC Annual meeting, representatives from many of the nation's medical schools participate in a Career Awareness Fair. The event provides access to experts and representatives from several schools through workshops geared for students, advisors and parents. Participants can chat with representatives in open fair format. Registration is free, but required.
AMCAS instruction booklet (full version). Any student completing the AMCAS application should be familiar with this instruction booklet. Incorrect entries and mistakes on the application can cause processing delays, calculation errors, and other hassles. Students applying should definitely keep this handy for reference when completing the application.
AMCAS Resources & help Several worksheets appear on this page including a grade conversion guide to calculate your AMCAS GPA, a pre-worksheet for AMCAS, and a course classification guide. Remember that AMCAS keeps only a portion of your data from one year to the next, so if you begin an application and decide not to apply for the current admissions cycle, save content somehwere offline.
