Application Review & Advising

Resources for Applicants

The journey to medicine can be difficult, but if it is your passion it will be worth it! There are many decisions and critical elements of preparation that are important for long-term success. Premedical students should seek out advisors and supporters that will assist along the way. We are happy to review your AMCAS application for medical school - just call or e-mail the office. It should be your absolute best work and showcase your strengths as well as unique aspects of your preparation and life experiences.

For more information about applying to Feinberg, visit the Office of Admissions.

Programming for Underrepresented Students

Medical Student Shadowing

Spend a day shadowing a current Feinberg student. Attend morning lecture or a small group discussion, have lunch with a small group of students, and tour our campus. Meet the Office of Diversity staff and learn more about opportunities at Feinberg. Please call our office if you are interested in a shadowing visit.

Interview Day Small Group Gathering

For underrepresented students, we offer a small group informal gathering with current Feinberg students before or after your interview day. Applicants who self identify on their AMCAS applications receive personal invitations from the Office of Diversity. Feinberg defines the following groups as underrepresented in medicine: African American, Latino, Native American, Native Hawaiian, and students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBT).

For LGBT students, information is listed on the interview scheduling secure site announcing our Class of 2015 Reach OUT Campaign. The Office of Diversity and the Feinberg Queers & Allies student group currently sponsor Safe Space Trainings at Feinberg, and are pleased to announce our Reach OUT Campaign for the class of 2015. Our goal is to connect prospective students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender with current Feinberg students of LGBT identities. If you would like to participate in Reach OUT during your interview visit, please contact us at diversitymed@northwestern.edu.

Second Look Weekend

We coordinate with the Office of Admissions and provide additional programming for Second Look Weekend specific to the needs and questions of underrepresented students, in addition to participating in general Second Look programming. Underrepresented students can expect a personal invitation to the Office of Diveristy event.

Open Door Policy on Interview Day & Everyday

All applicants are invited to visit the Office of Diversity on interview day or if they stop by campus. Talk to Anita, Sunny or Dean Franklin about diversity at Feinberg during any break in your interview schedule. We want to hear your ideas about community work and addressing health disparities, underrepresented groups in medicine, and social justice advocacy. Students are the driving force behind our programming, so we love hearing from you. We are also happy to chat with you about opportunities for involvement in Chicago - both on campus and off campus.
