We believe that every diversity and inclusion effort of the medical school, past and present, is built on a foundation of excellence, and that continuing to develop our inclusive, diverse culture will only make us stronger.
Building a Community
In my role as director, I want to continue to prioritize diversity and inclusion as an essential part of who we are as an academic medical center. One tactic I employ to that end is encouraging and facilitating regular, candid conversation. I believe that conversation and engagement – formal and casual, between individuals and among groups – leads to a deeper understanding and acceptance of diversity and inclusion as a unified community.
We will keep the conversation going with this website. Here, we look to highlight the many wonderful things happening around the Feinberg campus: existing educational initiatives, student groups, and training opportunities that focus on cultural competence. In addition to highlighting the good, we look to talk honestly about where our opportunities are. An institution can’t achieve a perfect state of inclusiveness, and even if it could, it wouldn’t be a permanent state. We must regularly and objectively assess and reassess our activities, and improve where we see opportunity. It will take all of us to identify needs and develop meaningful solutions.
