Urology Residency Program

Application Process

The deadline for applications for positions beginning July of 2010 has passed.  Applications for positions beginning July of 2011 will be processed electronically in conjunction with the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Information and registration are available online at www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm.

Online applications posted by ERAS containing the following information will be considered for review:

  • Completed application

  • Medical school transcript

  • USMLE score report(s) for board exam(s) completed

  • Curriculum Vitae

  • Personal statement describing your reasons for pursuing residency in urology

  • At least 2 of the 3 requested letters of recommendation

The mailbox opens September 1, 2010. The deadline for 2011 applications is September 30, 2010; applications completed after this date will not be reviewed.

Any candidate interviewing for residency or fellowship positions may obtain information about GME policies and procedures (the Reference Manual) as well as stipends and benefits on the GME portal, http://gme.northwestern.edu.

Interviews

A personal interview is required for appointment to the program; interviews are conducted by invitation only. All applications received by the September 30 deadline will be reviewed for consideration. Candidates requested for interviews will receive a letter of invitation. Candidates are invited to attend Grand Rounds and a social hour the evening before interviews (always held on Fridays) as well as the preoperative conference held the morning of interviews. Interviews will be conducted throughout the morning and into the afternoon; interview days also include a tour of our newly updated facilities. Interview days may go as late as 5:00 PM.

Applicants matched at Northwestern by the American Urologic Association must also match in general surgery at Northwestern as coordinated interdepartmentally and through the NRMP match. Copies of matched applicant information will be shared with the Department of Surgery. Matched residents must also register separately with the NRMP to be able to list Northwestern as their institution of choice for general surgery.

Residency positions begin in mid-to-late June; subsequent appointment at each advancing level is contingent upon individual performance.
