GHECS PROGRAM GOALS

  • Promote global health in low-resource settings, building on the Department of Family Medicine’s experience and philosophy.  To this end, the GHECS program will provide diverse global health activities for Northwestern University Feinberg students, including research and community service opportunities in Chicago and abroad, educational seminars, workshops and courses and other global health-related events.
  • Collaborate with Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights International Programs on research, service and educational projects.
  • Assist students in creating a robust learning experience before and after their clinical rotations, residencies or other international health care experiences.  Advise students and assist in planning research and service work in low resource health care settings abroad.  Provide additional contacts with individuals working in the field in Chicago and abroad.  Assist students in locating and securing funding opportunities for global health research.
  • Compile a working database of Northwestern University faculty, students and alumni and Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights staff that are doing health-related research and service activities abroad.  This database will serve as a resource for the Heartland and Northwestern communities.
