Dr. William Caro has been Professor of Clinical Dermatology for many years and has been on the faculty of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine since 1967. He had his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1959. Following an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, he had a year of residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Research and Educational Hospitals in Chicago. He then had his dermatology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia followed by a year as the Osborne Fellow in Dermal Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. He served for two years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as Chief of the Dermatology Section at MacDonald Army Hospital, Fort Eustis, Virginia. Upon his arrival at Northwestern, Dr. Caro developed the Dermatopathology Service within the Department of Dermatology and continues to teach dermatopathology to dermatology and pathology residents. Dr. Caro has served as a director and also as President of the American Board of Dermatology and of the American Society of Dermatopathology. In the American Dermatological Association he has served on the Board and also as Vice-president. He also has served on the Boards of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Northwestern Memorial Corporation. He also is on the Editorial Board of the dermatology journal Cutis.
