The Cheng lab presented their poster at the AAP meeting in Boston. Arun Sharma's poster was presented by Natalie Fuller in the Section on Urology, and was entitled, "Bone Marrow Derived Stem and Progenitor Cells for Bladder Tissue Engineering."
We are glad to congratulate Arun and Tiffany on the birth of their second son, Taran, on October 7!
Dr Cheng was invited to submit an article on nanotechnology for an upcoming issue in World Journal of Urology on urologic tissue engineering. The article featured much of Brad Erickson's work from his research year, and is available here.
The Cheng lab presented their poster at the AAP meeting in San Francisco. Arun Sharma's poster was entitled, "Primary Bladder Smooth Muscle Cultures: Do Current Methods Result in a Pure Population?" and was given in the Section on Urology.
Congratulations to Dr. Brad Erickson for receiving the First Place award for Basic Science Research at the Department of Urology's annual Bipin Bhayani resident research presentations. Dr. Erickson spent his research year in the Cheng laboratory, and his talk was entitled, "Bladder Tissue Engineering Utilizing Nanotechnology." Congratulations, Brad!
The Cheng and Shull groups presented their collaborative work at the SFB meeting in Chicago. Murat Guvendiren's talk was titled, "Hydrogel Scaffolds for Bladder Regeneration" and was presented in the Urological Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials session.
The award granted from Baxter will be used by the lab to study how circulating bone marrow-derived progenitor cells are involved in bladder regeneration.
The award granted from the SBAA will provide support to further our research efforts towards delineating physiological mechanisms involved in urinary bladder disease, a common clinical manifestation of patients stricken with spina bifida. Dr. Sharma's research is being funded through the generosity of the Ashley Rose Foundation.
Dr. Cheng's laboratory and research were featured on the cover of the Children's Memorial Research Center quarterly publication, InTouch. Click on the link above to download a pdf version of the article.
Dr. Harrington received a year-long research grant from the Society for Pediatric Urology at the annual SPU meeting that was held in Atlanta, Georgia. This grant will be used by the lab to study the role of adult stem cells in bladder regeneration.
The Cheng Lab is pleased to welcome to our group Dr. Arun Sharma as a Research Assistant Professor in Urology and a Research Scientist at Children's Memorial Research Center. Arun's research examines the plasticity of multipotent stem cells, and part of his work will explore this within the context of bladder regeneration. Welcome Arun!
September 2005 Dr. Cheng recieved NIH funding for his grant, "Bladder Tissue Engineering through Nanotechnology." This grant is a two-year exploratory study to examine the use of nanoscale fibers for growth factor delivery. This work is being conducted in collaboration with Dr. Samuel Stupp in Materials Science & Engineering.
