UROLOGIC REGENERATIVE MEDICINE:

Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials

Our research focus is urologic regenerative medicine, specifically tissue engineering and biomaterials in bladder regeneration models. We study the regenerative applications of combining novel elastomeric scaffolds with specific stem and progenitor cell populations. Mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells and neural progenitor cells are investigated in conjunction with scaffold modifications to design tissue grafts with enhanced functionality. Projects include development of growth factor releasing scaffolds for customization of a microenvironment suited to specific regenerative processes, construct testing in established rat and newly developed baboon model systems, artificial ureteral construction, and potential regenerative therapies for stress urinary incontinence.
