Karen
Christopher, MFA, is the video editor at the Center for Communication and Medicine. She works primarily on the Patient Narrative Video series for which we provide patients with a video camera, show them how to use it, and ask them to share their thoughts and feelings. We edit the video footage, with their approval, to offer brief stories about illness experiences. She is the subject of one of these videos – Karen: A Woman with Diabetes – which won a 1999 Silver Award from the Health Sciences Communication Association as well as the Holly Harrington-Lux Award for Best Creative Design at the HeSCA Media Festivals. It has also been screened as an official selection at the Dallas Film and Video Festival. She has been a member of the performance group Goat Island since 1989, travelling to Europe to perform and give lectures and workshops at universities and arts organizations. She earned her BA degree from Pomona College in Claremont, California, and an MFA in Film & Video from Columbia College Chicago.
