DEAR READERS   ›   Of the many elements that make up a medical school, people are the most crucial. Without the talent, leadership, and perseverance of faculty and staff members and students, the Feinberg School of Medicine could not fulfill its missions of education, research, and clinical services, much less strive—as the school is doing—to fulfill its potential as one of the nation’s top-tier medical schools.   ›   The past academic year saw the departure of such key leaders as John Brooke in physical therapy and human movement sciences and Jack Snarr in student programs, who both retired. We shared in the many successes of our faculty members including orthopaedic surgeon Robert Satcher being tapped for NASA’s 2004 astronaut class and medicine chair Larry Jameson and molecular biologist Gary Borisy being elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.   ›   At the same time, the Feinberg School welcomed new leaders who undoubtedly will leave their own mark on the institution. These include Amy Paller, chair of dermatology; Patrick McCarthy, chief of cardiac surgery; Angela Nuzzarello, associate dean for student programs and professional development; Nathaniel Soper, director of minimally invasive surgery; and Robert Schleimer, chief of allergy-immunology.   ›   We are thankful to the school’s alumni, whose many contributions reflect well on their alma mater, as well as to our generous supporters, who provide the necessary resources to help the Feinberg School succeed.   ›   Your feedback on Anatomy of the Feinberg School of Medicine would be most helpful in planning future reports.
