Surgeon, Patent Holder Serves as Role Model
Carla M. Pugh, MD, PhD, assistant professor of surgery, is featured in “Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons,� a traveling exhibition cosponsored by the National Library of Medicine. She also holds a patent on sensors used in patient simulators that capture hands-on performance by students.
What’s in a Name?
The Northwestern University Institute for Neuroscience is now the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience (NUIN) Program. Directed by John F. Disterhoff, PhD, Ernest J. and Hattie H. Magerstadt Memorial Research Professor, NUIN promotes neuroscience research and education at Northwestern and its affiliated hospitals, including administering the University’s PhD program in neuroscience. The Buehler Center on Aging is now the Buehler Center on Aging, Health & Society. Directed by Linda L. Emanuel, MD, PhD, Buehler Professor of Geriatrics, the center’s interdisciplinary group of researchers, educators, and clinicians is dedicated to improving care for elderly people, terminally ill patients, and other vulnerable groups.
