Letter from Co-Chief Resident Resident Nicole Higgins

I chose to pursue my anesthesiology residency training at Northwestern for several reasons, the most important being the tremendous clinical experiences available. Northwestern is busy - very busy - and as residents you work hard. This translates into a clinical competency and confidence that is unparalleled in any other residency. In addition to becoming an excellent clinical anesthesiologist, Northwestern offers its residents a beautiful facility to work in, state of the art technology and simulator center, extensive experience in regional anesthetic techniques, and several research opportunities if interested. Our obstetrical experience is also incredible. The clinical experience is all balanced by the quality of the people you work with. Your fellow residents are exceptional and the staff is friendly, approachable and committed to resident education.

Northwestern is located in the "Gold Coast" of Chicago. There are several incredible restaurants, museums and of course shopping opportunities all within walking distance of the hospital, not to mention Lake Michigan. I am from Chicago, so of course I am biased when it comes to the city, but Chicago has plenty to offer.

Choosing a residency is a difficult and personal decision. Be honest with yourself and your expectations - it is three or four years of your life! Northwestern will make you an exceptional, respected and highly marketable anesthesiologist and you will work with incredible people.

Sincerely,
Nicole Higgins, MD
Co-Chief Resident
Class of 2006
