The Alumni Association sponsors a number of programs for Northwestern's medical students.
During ORIENTATION WEEK the Alumni Association welcomes incoming medical students with the Founder’s Day Reception on Friday.
The ROLL CALL BREAKFAST is an annual tradition of serving a continental breakfast before the first year students’ six Structure-Function exams and the second year students’ nine Scientific Basis of Medicine exams.
Monthly COOKIE BREAKS are provided for both the third and fourth-year students at the end of the day after their IDM3 and PPSIV schedules, respectively. The Medical Alumni Association celebrates GRADUATION by co-sponsoring the reception that immediately follows the official graduation convocation. The HOST (HELP OUR STUDENTS TRAVEL) PROGRAM is a service provided by alumni to senior medical students and physicians completing their residencies at Northwestern. Alumni from around the country provide assistance and advice as these students travel to a clinical rotation out of the area or interview for residencies as well as for residents who are interviewing for positions. We ask alumni and students who wish to participate in the HOST program to send an e-mail to the Alumni office at medalum@northwestern.edu. An annual Alumni Mentoring and Career Planning Session is held during lunch on the Friday of Alumni Weekend. Alumni from a variety of specialties and geographic locations are invited to participate and speak about their career choices and answer questions for students. Each fall, the Medical Alumni Association is one of the sponsors of the Banquet to induct new students, residents and faculty members into the Medical Honor Society of the Alpha Omega Alpha, Gamma Chapter, of Illinois. In the Winter of 2009, Development & Alumni Relations created a group page on Facebook (facebook.com) and LinkedIn (linkedin.com) internet sites. We invite you to become a fan of the newly created groups on one or both sites. Once a member of these sites, you will find our group by searching for "Northwestern University Medical Alumni" within both sites. When you reach the group page, you can select to join it and take advantage of staying connected with others in the group. We hope you will find this an interesting and useful way to find and keep in touch with your classmates and other alumni of the medical school.
The Northwestern University Medical Alumni Association and Development & Alumni Relations at the medical school are pleased to award the annual Kenneth M. Viste, Jr, MD’66 Student Service Recognition Award. The student is recognized for outstanding service to the Feinberg School of Medicine and/or the Medical Alumni Association. Service is defined as volunteer efforts on behalf of the student's class, Student Senate, any of the approved student organizations, the Medical Alumni Association, or other Feinberg School-related activity. A cash award is presented to each recipient at the Graduation Luncheon by the Alumni Association president and is announced during commencement the next day as the recipient receives his/her degree. Nominations by the Offices of Admissions, Development & Alumni Relations, Medical Education, Minority and Cultural Affairs, and Student Programs and Professional Development are submitted to the Executive Committee of the Medical Alumni Association National Board for final selection. Congratulations to the following recipients for their outstanding service. Darren Boyd Virginia M. Diavolitsis Jonah D. Fleisher Kathryn G. Kinner Kristine B. Munoz Neel K. Naik Justin W.
