The cost of a medical education at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine is comprised of tuition as well as other expenses. The annual tuition rate for the 2009-2010 academic year is $42,974. Increases in tuition charges should be anticipated in subsequent years. Students at Northwestern University are required to have health insurance while enrolled at Northwestern. Students may obtain insurance through the Northwestern University student insurance plan (current cost is $2360 per student for the 2009-10 academic year) or sign a waiver indicating comparable coverage from another source. All medical students must participate in the disability insurance program, which costs approximately $370 per year. Many variables are considered in determining the actual costs of the premium. The disability insurance program is provided by a private carrier. It pays a monthly benefit to age 65 to any student unable to complete MD requirements because of either accident or illness during their medical school training. Other expenses for a first year medical student at Feinberg to consider include books and supplies estimated at $2,000, transportation estimated at $1,449 and room and board. Our financial aid budget allows for room and board expenses of up to $14,958 or up to $1,200 per month in rent and $462 per month for board. |
