The current enrollment of nontraditional medical students at the Feinberg School of Medicine is 128 students (19 percent). Nontraditional students are generally defined as those who have taken two or more years off between undergraduate studies and matriculation to medical school.

The entering Class of 2013 contains 33 (20 percent) nontraditional students with ages that range between 24 and 44. Five have earned advanced degrees, including one Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences (Biochemistry/Pharmacology), one Juris Doctor, one Master of Science in Biomedical Chemistry and two Masters of Public Health.

Our entering nontraditional students have pursued diverse careers that range from working as a personal trainer for a professional football player to serving as an intern in the Karolinska Institute Department of Clinical Neuroscience in Stockholm, Sweden. One student worked as a graduate research assistant at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and has published numerous abstracts, presentations and more. Another student was an analyst at Sg2 Health Care Intelligence, a research, consulting and education company. Now, all share the same passion: to pursue medicine.
