Northwestern medical students are encouraged to conduct biomedical research to supplement their basic science and clinical education. Insight gained through the approach to research and its techniques prepares physicians to continue their education independently after leaving medical school and residency. Also, students who conduct research are better able to determine whether it should be a component of their future medical careers. Research is required for successful completion of the MD/PhD, the MD/MPH, and the MD/MA degree programs. Between their M1 and M2 years, students who are not involved in a joint degree program can participate in the Medical Student Summer Research Program. Students who successfully complete the MSSRP can then apply to the Research Thesis Program. Whether or not FSM students participate in the Research Thesis Program, all are encouraged to engage in research while at Feinberg. Information on research and funding opportunities is maintained by the Office of Student Programs and Professional Development. This office is committed to providing assistance to Feinberg students in their pursuit of and engagement in research experiences. Read more about Feinberg's research initiatives. |
