Transportation and Commuting Options
I would like to commute to and from campus, what are my options?
If you are considering living beyond walking distance to campus, please keep in mind that the average commuting time fluctuates during rush hour, accidents, road construction, and/or bad weather. An average 12-mile trip may take a little under 30 minutes during non-peak times but can almost triple depending on what is happening on the roadway. Driving
MapQuest http://www.mapquest.com/directions and Yahoo Maps http://maps.yahoo.com/dd can provide you with accurate driving directions, and average times during non-peak hours. Campus Parking
On-campus parking is available to students who live two miles outside of campus for about $300 per academic year. For more information about campus parking, please visit the Apply for Campus Parking page. Public Transportation & the Chicago Transit Authority "CTA" Upass Program
The Feinberg MD Program now participates in the CTA Upass Program. The CTA Upass permits users to have unlimited rides on all CTA trains and buses at a discounted rate. The current annual cost per year is $296.00 and is billed annually to each student's bursar account whether they use the pass or not. CTA Upasses are automatically issued to all incoming enrolled students during their first week of classes. For more information about the CTA Upass Program, please visit: http://www.transitchicago.com/upass/ Most city buses and trains run throughout the day and night. One advantage to riding the train is that trains are reliable most of the time, because they travel below or above street level. However, it is not advisable to use public transportation during late night hours especially when traveling alone on some routes. Check out the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus and train route schedules and transit fare information at: http://www.transitchicago.com/ and the Metra Train website at: http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home.html University Shuttle Service
Northwestern offers shuttle bus services between the Chicago and Evanston campuses, three Chicago-area hospitals, and to and from the Metra Train station (see: http://metrarail.com/metra/en/home.html for Metra information) For further information about University transportation, please visit the University services Web page at: http://www.northwestern.edu/uservices/transportation/shuttles/index.html |
