The Competencies

The goal of the medical curriculum is to prepare broadly educated, responsible physicians capable of pursuing postgraduate medical education in any clinical discipline and/or pursuing a career in medically related research. This requires each student to attain facility in each of eight areas:

  • Medical Knowledge and Scholarship
  • Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Professional Behavior and Moral Reasoning
  • Patient-Centered Medical Care
  • System Awareness and Team Based Care
  • Continuous Learning and Quality Improvement
  • Community Engagement and Service
  • Personal Awareness and Self-Care
