- Required Assignments/Expectations
- The student is expected to be an active member of the medical/rehab team. This includes, but is not limited to, performing history and physicals, writing mandatory daily progress notes on assigned patients, attending daily rounds, attending his/her patient’s therapy sessions, coordinating care with other health care providers and consulting physicians, performing bedside procedures with supervision (ie. - Attendance Policy
- Due to the short nature of this rotation, ALL excused absences must be prearranged with the program director in advance. Of note, the student will also be responsible for any material missed and for notifying their team at the start of the rotation.
- No weekend work or overnight call is required on this rotation. However, while workload can vary from day to day and by service, all weekdays are full clinical days and should be treated as such.
- If sick or unforeseen circumstances arise that requires missing time off of the rotation, it is expected that the student notify their team and the clerkship director (and/or clerkship coordinator) as soon as possible. Of note, makeup assignments and/or additional clinical time may be assigned.
- Missing no more than 3 half days (excused) is allowed on this rotation and again all absences must be approved by the clerkship director. Any unexcused absence will be considered a professionalism issue and will warrant remediation.
- Performance Evaluation System
- This clerkship is graded as Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail.
- Clinical evaluation by the inpatient attending and resident will constitute 50% of the grade.
- Performance on the final written examination will constitute 20% of the grade.
- Performance on the musculoskeletal physical examination skills testing will constitute 10% of the grade.
- Performance and completion of the individualized passport will constitute 20% of the grade.
- When the above scores have been compiled, Pass will be assigned to scores 60-80%, High pass to scores 80-85%, Honors to scores 85-100% and fail to those scores below 60%.
- Regardless of score, remediation may be required for particularly poor performance in an individual area or for professionalism issues alone.
