"The official name for this specialty is Otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. This description conveys the true scope of practice of these specialists: the medical and surgical management of any disorder in the entire head and neck region and its related structures. These specialist are the ones to whom patients turn with particularly complex disorders of the ear, sinuses, oral cavity, larynx, throat, and other parts of the head and neck" (Freeman, p.321).
